My family has supported the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts since they first opened their doors in 1987 (as The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.)
Although my Mom raised my sister and I to love the Arts, the tradition of going to the Straz for performances actually began with my grandparents.
My Mom and I inherited the tickets originally reserved by my Grandfather and it has become a monthly tradition that we really enjoy doing together.
Last night, we were fortunate to be a part of the opening night performance of Something Rotten. This stop begins their 6 day run at the Straz Center in Tampa, Florida.
Something Rotten is set in 1595 and follows the story of two brothers that set out to make the 1st musical because they are trying to compete with the ever popular Shakespeare and the swoon-worthy diction of his plays.
The New York Magazine described Something Rotten as “The Producers + Spamalot + The Book of Mormon. Squared!” They are exactly right! Prepare to laugh, giggle, and laugh some more.
I can certainly understand why the show received 10 Tony Nominations because the songs are incredibly entertaining and the full cast participates in various tap numbers!
Additionally, theater aficionados will feel right at home with the numerous hilarious references that include: making fun of other Broadway shows, pop culture, and politics.
Something Rotten will be in Tampa through March 12th and there are still tickets available!
Tickets can be purchased directly from the Straz Center Box Office here.
Have you seen Something Rotten? Let me know in the comments how much you loved it!
