The Nerding Curve for President

When I started this blog last year, I had a great level of excitement for all the writing that I was going to be able to do.  Unfortunately, I failed to partner my high hopes with a concrete plan and my little patch of Internet land has sat untouched and unkempt for approximately 8 months time.

Knowing that I wanted to get back into it, I have spent 2017 studying the blogging industry and planning as many posts as possible in the weeks to come.  Here’s one of my favorite reads about Google Analytics for Bloggers if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Finding and/or planning content has gone well and it wasn’t until I started really finalizing my blogging schedule that I realized I had a creative conundrum.

Where to begin, again?  After a barely there opening publication, a few posts, and a lapse of months, how could I possibly hope to start this process over again and be successful?

I needed a good topic.

A hot topic if you will.

And that’s when it came to me in all its’ dirty, complicated glory……POLITICS!

Ahhhh, politics.  Just the word seems to make people shudder and roll their eyes.  Everyday I log into my Facebook and Twitter feeds, only to see a barrage of fury, hate, gloating, and click bait articles that don’t even make sense half the time.  Where are the puppies and funny memes that we all want to see on our social media feeds?  Don’t worry; they’re still there.  You just have to dig around through all those political posts first.  Love it, hate it, or try to ignore it, that’s American politics for ya!  Or at least what it has become in the last 20 years or so.

Can we all agree that as Star Wars characters go, Jar jar Binks is the worst?

Now most of the people that know me well, or that I would consider friends in real life are/were completely dumbfounded when I told them that I was starting a blog that would NOT include politics and politically charged posts.  This is because, contrary to what you see here dear reader, I am actually a VERY politically interested person.  I read political stories and watch White House Press Conferences (yawn) almost everyday.  I’ve worked on campaigns.  I’ve volunteered in local political action groups.  I’ve never missed a vote that I was allowed to participate in since I was 18 years old.  From President to Dog Catcher, I’ve voted for them all (I’m not sure if Dog Catcher is a REAL elected position, but you get my drift.)

So WHY have I created this platform for myself (TWICE, cough, cough) and then declined to speak on something that I am clearly so passionate about you ask?  Well, that is a great question and I’m so glad you posed it via me typing it for you.  😉  (I may not post about politics here, but I WILL frequently post with snark. Hehe.)

Well, the answer is simple…..because politics is becoming full of despair and because it’s out there, everywhere we look, and frankly, because I simply don’t want to.  I think some things are better left unsaid in a public forum.  And because above all, I started this blog to have fun and share my life experiences with people.  I don’t want to be potentially divisive every minute of every day.  I like to think about the commonalities that we all share as Americans and ultimately as Global citizens.  That’s why I choose to blog about the geek stuff my company sells, Harry Potter, Star Trek, my husband, my dog, my dinner recipes, and about life in Tampa, Florida just to name a few fun things to talk about.  Ultimately, everything can’t be a miserable fight with no end in sight and no clear winner.  Sometimes I crave something much simpler than that.  Sometimes we all NEED something much simpler too (whether we realize it or not.)

Let’s take some time to celebrate how much we all love our dogs, our workout routines, and the next episode of our favorite show by posting and talking about those things for a while.  OK?  Take it from me, in the world of politics and elections, 2 years will come and go quicker than you can say “This is an Ad paid for by this Foundation or PAC that want to slowly kill your spirit with advertising.”

Can we please talk about how cute my chihuahua is?

So sit back, relax, and welcome to The Nerding Curve.  Again.

This time for real, I promise…..

Nerdily, Laura
